Dear Second Graders,
We have been learning about endangered animals for a few weeks now. Now, you will be assigned one animal to do more research on, and create several fun projects!
Entry Event: In order for me to get an idea about what kind of animal you would be interested in learning more about, please complete this Google form.
Once you have completed the survey, you will be assigned an endangered animal to research with a partner.
Activity 1: Now that you have been assigned an animal, you will need to use Google Earth to observe the animal's habitat. It is crucial to understand exactly what your animal's habitat looks like because later you will be making your own diorama of the habitat to present to the class. For my examples, I used the African Elephants. My endangered animal lives mostly in the country of Mali in Africa. So, I located Mali and explored the landscape and viewed the pictures taken there using the "Tour Guide" tool. You should be, too! Those little blue squares indicate a photo taken at that location.
Activity 2: After researching your animal and its habitat, create a presentation on Google Slides to tell us more about your species. Make sure to tell us more about your animal, and why it is extinct. An example can be found here.
Activity 3: Using the information you gathered for your Google Presentation, create a PowToon presentation to grab your audience's attention about this important issue. Check out this example for elephants here.
Finally, when your project is complete, please share your Google Presentations and link to your PowToon on my blog in the comment section of my example. As a reminder, you can access my blog and that post here.
Please remember to follow along with the rubric below! Good luck, and have fun with this! :) -Miss Dapper
